Rahel Schär

Postdoctoral Researcher University of Bern

Rahel Schär is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Bern. She did her Master’s studies in Theology and History at the University of Bern and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, and received her Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Bern in 2022. In her research she is particularly interested in the history of religious practice. Her monograph “Auf der Suche nach dem vollkommenen Leben. Die frühen Juramönche und Juranonnen zwischen Rückzug und Interaktion” (2023) explores the network of the early Jura monks and nuns, reveals their ideals of a Christian lifestyle, and uncovers so far hidden socio-political and ecclesiastical dynamics. In her current project she investigates the role of co-production in the Passiones of the sixty martyrs of Gaza and of Bishop Sophronius of Jerusalem.
